Tribute from Tucker Crawford “
You will be missed Jay Batt. Thank you for your guidance and friendship through the years.
“The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another, who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe.”

Sad to hear of the passing of my buddy Jay Batt. He became an instant, real life friend, and I will miss his “Johnny T!” greetings.

I’m saddened to hear about the passing of Jay Batt. While we came from different backgrounds, we shared a strong commitment to New Orleans and public service. Jay cared deeply about this city and worked hard to improve its neighborhoods and quality of life during his time on the City Council.
We both believed in giving back to the community and in the power of leadership rooted in service. I had the chance to speak with Jay recently at the New Orleans Heart Ball, and as always, he was full of energy, ideas, and love for this city. He never stopped believing in the promise of New Orleans and gave his all to help it thrive.
My condolences go out to his family and loved ones.
