Tribute for George Wendt:
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George Wendt, the beloved actor best known for his iconic role as Norm Peterson on the legendary NBC sitcom Cheers. George passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday morning at the age of 76. A proud Chicagoan through and through, George brought warmth, humor, and heart to every role he played — but none more enduring than Norm, the everyman barfly whose witty one-liners and lovable presence made him a staple of American television for over a decade. With more than 270 episodes under his belt, George helped define what made Cheers such a timeless show: authenticity, humanity, and heart.
Beyond the screen, George Wendt was exactly who you hoped he’d be — kind, funny, genuine, and endlessly generous. Those fortunate enough to know him personally describe a man who never let fame change him, who treated everyone — from fellow actors to crew members and fans — with respect and real affection. “I can’t believe George Wendt is gone,” shared one heartbroken friend. “He was one of the kindest, funniest, most genuine people I’ve ever met. Without him, I never would have met Stuart… he was such a good friend. So caring. So generous. I owe him everything.”
George leaves behind his loving wife Bernadette Birkett, their children — including Danny — and a legacy of laughter and love that touched millions. His impact on the entertainment world is immeasurable, but his impact as a friend, husband, and father is what truly defined him.We raise a glass — fittingly, perhaps, at the end of a long day — to the man who brought us so many smiles and reminded us what it means to belong. Cheers, George. You will never be forgotten. We love you.
Rest Easy George Wendt!!!
