I had the privilege of knowing Gordon for many years — “back when we both had hair,” as we used to joke. That friendship deepened when my wife, Rebecca Balcer, succeeded him at MARC Key West. In moments when I praised her success, she would often remind me that much of it was built on the foundation Gordon had laid. That’s who he was — a man who lifted others, quietly and generously.
Gordon’s loss leaves a hole in the fabric of the community. He was a friend, a mentor, a musician, and a humanitarian. As we mourn, we also celebrate the joy he brought into our lives and the legacy he leaves behind. Rest easy, Gordon. Go on now and charm the angels with that sweet, soulful voice.
