It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Zahara Verkoper, a Grade 9 learner at Kimberley Girls’ High School in the Northern Cape. Zahara tragically lost her life in a motor vehicle accident over the past weekend, leaving her family, friends, classmates, and the entire school community heartbroken.
Zahara was a bright light in the halls of Kimberley Girls’ High. Known for her warm smile, kind nature, and positive energy, she touched the lives of many with her vibrant spirit and infectious enthusiasm. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or among her peers, Zahara brought joy and compassion wherever she went.
In her short time with us, Zahara made a lasting impression. Her teachers remember her as a dedicated student, always willing to learn and participate with enthusiasm. Her classmates describe her as a loyal friend, someone who lifted others up and never hesitated to lend a helping hand or share a word of encouragement. Zahara was the kind of person who made others feel seen and valued — a rare and precious gift in someone so young.
Her sudden passing has sent waves of grief through the Kimberley Girls’ High School community. In this time of immense sorrow, we stand together in mourning and remembrance. We extend our deepest condolences to Zahara’s family — especially her parents and loved ones — as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
